Introduction of Zonal Charging
Since VeggiePets sent it's first parcel in 2003 we have been absorbing all manner of postage costs, one being zonal charges.
Every order has been subsidised by a small amount which we could do when we started with relatively low overheads. However this has been costing us over £5000 a year. In addition to that figure we have also abosrbed zonal surcharges, which can be as much as £9 more than the fee we charge for shipping (yes we make a loss on those!).
Historically we have done that to support customers in far away places in the hope of establishing strong customer bases to encourage wider distribution through local stockitsts.
We also felt that we were doing a 'good thing' to support people who wanted to move away from meat based products - however the balance has changed and that situation would risk the sustainability of our business, restrict the growth of our many projects and potentially leave ALL our customers without a service.
We aim to be fair - but have to be fair to all equally. For that reason we have decided that increasing the costs of goods to absorb shipping prices would be unfair as some customers making larger orders would be subsidising others.
The only fair solution is to ask people to pay what it actually costs to ship goods. However, we have rounded these figures down a little, and have decided to continue absorbing the packaging costs (which also costs thousands annually!)
The Zonal Charging System
Parcel Force introduced the Zonal Charges a long time ago. It reflects the fact that we are not all 'geographically equal'. A customer in a large English city is easier to reach than someone on the Isle of Man or up a Scottish mountain... the additional fuel, sorting and handling, time and staff required to get products to our more remote customers is reflected in charges applied to different bands. These are:
Zone 1 - Mainland UK England, Wales and Scotland excluding postcodes shown below. (Includes Ilse of Wight).
Zone 2 - Highlands and Islands of Scotland
Postcodes: IV, HS, KA27-28, PA20-49, PA60-78, PH17-26, PH30-44, PH49-50, ZE
Zone 3 - Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and Isles of Scilly
Postcodes: BT, IM, TR21-25
Therefore if you live in one of the postcodes below and would like to order items, the cost of delivery will be our standard charge plus one of the following two surcharges.
So, if you live on the Isle of Man, you will be charged the standard rate automatically (currently £5.60) but will have to add the Zone 3 surcharge of £9, meaning £14.60 for delivery.
We would suggest customers make the most of the delivery and fill the available 30 kilos to the brim - ordering more food less often will even things out somewhat.
Thanks as always for your custom and understanding.

Zonal Charge Upgrades
If a surcharge is applicable to your order (that is if you live in any of the postcodes listed in Zone 2 or 3) you will need to add the surcharge to your order
here >>
Please note: If orders are received from areas where Zonal Surcharges apply but the surcharge has not been added, we will be unable to send the item until it has been paid. In such an event we will have to contact you to discuss making a payment or cancelling the order and refunding you.
