Weight limits for Royal Mail Services

Royal Mail price their service according to the total weight of the parcel, which is the goods plus all packaging. With strict limits of 2kg for Small Parcels and 10kg and 20kg for Medium Parcels, we have to limit the maximum weight of goods that can be sent with these services.

For example a 10kg bag of dog or cat food refers to the average Net Weight. Typically it will weigh more than 10kg, due to slight over filling of the contents and the weight of the bag the food some in. Then we need to put it in a suitable box and seal it which adds further weight. For this reason a 10kg bag of food cannot be sent within the Royal Mail's 10kg limits.

Royal Mail '2nd Class Small Parcels' are limited to 2 kilos maximum, including ALL packaging meaning that we have to limit the weight of goods that can be ordered for this service to 1.75kg, to allow for packaging to ensure it can be delivered safely. Similarly, we have to limit the goods for their 10kg and 20kg 'Medium Parcel' service to 9kg and 19kg respectively, to ensure the total paged weight does not exceed their limits. On larger parcels we use larger boxes so we need to make a greater allowance for packaging.

VAT is included on all delivery prices

The delivery prices shown above include VAT. While VAT does not apply to Royal Mail services if you use them personally, online stores are required by UK Law (HMRC VAT Notice 700/24) to charge VAT on top of the cost of Royal Mail's own prices. We don't like it either, sorry!

BREXIT Information
Unfortunately, due to changes caused by BREXIT, we are no longer able to send parcels to Europe due to the additional paperwork and high risks of parcels being refused at this time. If we can safely send parcels again in future we will - although unfortunately, the delivery costs are likely to be considerably higher.
